Sumac Grant-Johnson CPDT-KA, Wag it Games Founder

I think I was born with a love of animals. Days filled with dogs or other animals are always extra special. I began training dogs over 40 years ago and have over 20 years of experience teaching. Over the last several years my focus has shifted to creating positive training activities, speaking nationally and training instructors internationally.

Over the years I have accumulated many credentials from Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Certified Agility Instructor to Rally Obedience Judge, CGC evaluator and approved service dog tester for the Foundation for Service Dog Support. But the highlight for me is that I am the founder of Wag It Games. A program of diverse Skill divisions that offer training and competitive opportunities for pet dogs and their owners including dogs with special needs.

My shift to this area has lead me to present at The Association of Professional Dog Trainers national conference as well as at Suzanne Clothiers Trainers Workshop. This path has also lead to the development of my instructor training program which helps trainers b

Sumac has been named Maine Dog trainer of the year and has appeared on Disney’s “That’s My Dog” and “Fetch” on PBS. She has been invited to present at Suzanne Clothiers Trainers Workshop and presented at the Association of Professional Dog Trainers national conference. She was invited to be a part of Leadership Maine for her leadership capabilities and experience in small business. Sumac has been a contributor to Down East Dog News and Chronicle of the Dog.

Over the years Sumac has participated in a variety of dog sports and activities including obedience, rally, agility, tricks, herding, skijoring, scent games and water skills. Today she enjoys working with her two Border Collies and Golden Retriever rescue dog.

Sumac has a fascination with “INSPIRING a desired behavior” in people as well as dogs. She combines her dog training knowledge, creativity and business training with her background in teaching personal growth workshops. This background enables her to bring together a unique blend of knowledge in dog training, human behavior, learning styles, teaching methods, group dynamics and motivation techniques.

Sumac offers seminars and Instructor Training in person as well as on line to an international market. Sumac runs Wag It Camps as well as a variety of classes and events at Wag It Training Center in Lincolnville Maine.
